Newsum, Missurelli lead Cardinal charge at UW-LPublished by
LA CROSSE, Wis. — When it comes to the 10,000 meter run, there's something about the Phil Esten Challenge that brings out the best in the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota runners. For the second year in a row, the Cardinals broke the school record in the 10,000 Friday evening, as Jovan Newsum shattered the school mark—set by teammate Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) at the same event in 2014—stopping the clock in 32:04.45 to finish sixth overall. And Newsum wasn't the only person in a record-breaking mood Friday, as Maria Missurelli (Franklin, Wis.) etched her name in the Cardinal record book, clearing 3.25 meters to finish sixth overall.
