ST. JOSEPH, Minn. During a race, runners often don't notice the people in the lane next to them. They are in a zone, wanting only to cross the finish line ahead of the blurred pack that they are trying to separate themselves from. After a race, adrenaline and emotion often dictates what runners do next: check their time, start cooling down, find their coach, start mentally preparing for the next race. It is instinctive and done without thought.
