Missurelli leads the way in Day 2 for CardinalsPublished by
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — If there's one thing that can be said about Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's Maria Missurelli, it's that she's consistent. For the third straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, the Cardinal sophomore recorded a second-place finish in the pole vault Saturday afternoon. Missurelli, who was second at last season's outdoor championships, and second again at this season's indoor championships in early March, was at it again on Saturday, clearing 3.30 meters en route to her All-MIAC First-Team second-place effort. Jovan Newsum (Glendale Heights, Ill.) and Bryan Ortman (Chicago, Ill.) led the way for the Cardinal men, placing fourth in the 5,000 and the triple jump, respectively. Fueled by Missurelli on the women's side, and the honorable-mention efforts of Newsum and Ortman on the men's, the Cardinal women finished 12th in the team standings, with the Saint Mary's men placing 10th.
