Booker, Newsom lead way for Cardinals at MIACPublished by
NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) and Jovan Newsom (Glendate Heights, Minn.) led the way for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams during the opening day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Friday evening. Booker, making her third appearance in the conference championships, posted a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw — uncorking a toss of 45.77 meters — while Newsom made the most of his MIAC debut, finishing fifth in his heat in the 1,500 to earn a spot in Saturday's 12-man final with a qualifying time of 4:14.10.
